Don’t Mess With The Hair

Source: Latest Attack Against Donald Trump: Tweet From Account Labeled El Chapo Guzman

I am as guilty as anyone for disparaging the entry of The Donald into the US Republican nomination race for President.  But for a Mexican criminal boss to threaten a U.S. citizen, a leading Presidential candidate, even if he’s Donald Trump is way out of line. You would think that there would be an indignant reaction from the media and the public and politicians on both sides…but no.

As  one observes the reaction of both the mainstream media, the reactions of the Dems and even the reactions of the GOP, some things become abundantly clear.  First, as we all know, The Donald is like a fire hydrant with the cap off; things spew in all directions and with great force.  His delivery of slights to non friends is unvarnished and direct.  He doesn’t have to be oblique with his comments because he’s not a professional politician who has to placate untold constituencies.  He’s like the guy at the modern art show who calls the artist out for the crap that is presented rather than ooh and aah politely like the other dignified guests.  He’s Rodney Dangerfield from the Caddyshack movie.  While not always tactful, the blunt opinions that he espouses resonates with a large heretofore silent constituency and the media are unable to make him backpedal to their PC sensibilities.  (Think Martin O’Malley)

Secondly, we now know that there is an entrenched political class that is made up of both sides of the political aisle, a class that is offended and likely uncomfortable with Trump’s demagoguery.  It’s quite obvious that this class has been most effective at perpetuating their own jobs as opposed to achieving tasks on behalf of their electorate.  And of course, the majority of them are lawyers, a profession that is in existence because of their license to obfuscate.

The Donald is an interesting figure at this point in history.  It’s hard to like the guy based on the public persona that he cultivates. He’s an egomaniac, who in fairness,  at least has accomplishments to brag about.  He is not a lawyer.  He is not beholden to money men.  He voices opinions on issues that the mainstream media have bullied others into being afraid to express.  I’m skeptical that Trump’s momentum can carry all the way to the Oval office, but what he’s done for the country thus far is invaluable.  He’s made it possible to have an opinion not approved by the media or the political elites and this may change the message that others will deliver.  You may not like the guy, but you have to like what he’s doing to the political zeitgeist.

El Chappo Guzman may have a lot of reach,  but he still operates out of Mexico.  It’s more likely that the people who really despise Trump and  have their long knives out for him are right here in the USA.

Carrots And Sticks

link Al Gore and the 2016 presidential landscape – Videos – CBS News.

Oh boy, just when people thought the shoe-in was a done deal, Hillary’s recent mis-steps with information disclosure have made even her ardent supporters a bit queasy.  The trouble is, when you’re ‘all in’ with the presumptive candidate, there’s no real back up plan.

That Hillary would be the flag bearer for the Dems has been accepted as much a given as finding hipsters at Starbucks.   For years, Hillary has been the big tree in the Dem garden, absorbing all the light and nutrients to the detriment of all other plant life.  Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and even Jerry Brown are like mushrooms growing in the shade of the big Hillary tree.

Now however, some are ruminating about other possible candidates to lead the Democratic charge.  And speaking of fungus, the name Al Gore is offered as a possibility.

Al Gore.  That corpulent charlatan of climate catastrophe.  He’s the guy that thinks that the science of global warming is settled. How? By a show of hands, that’s how.  And if you don’t believe it, you should be punished.  There are rumors that the ISIS nutters have been buying his training videos.  By himself, he’s not dangerous, but the fact that he can still command a paid audience should be frightening to anyone with the reasoning ability beyond that of a 5 year old.

On the other side of the political spectrum, Donald Trump has also been making noises about running in 2016.  This guy promises to make every one rich when he becomes President, an update on the classic “chicken in every pot” promise from generations ago.  While this may sound attractive, in fact this message is aimed at the same set of low information voters that are presently supporting the other party.  Both of these guys are cut from the mold of the old style travelling religious revival shows.  One’s message is “Repent Now or Else!” whereas the other one’s is “Get Rich Like Me!” as if he were a non Asian Tom Vu.  So while one is dangling carrots, the other is dangling a stick.  What a choice; to be gored or to be trumped.  We kind of hope they both wind up in the election circus.
